Restaurant Reviews

62 Restaurant & Wine Bar
“This city-style restaurant is a true gem on Salem’s waterfront!
The best I’ve ever had is Salem!”
Shannon- Boston, MA

A&B Burgers
“If you work in or near downtown Salem, whether in an office or in construction…and you are looking
for a place to get away from the job for a few minutes during the day…take the short walk down to A&B Burger. You won t regret it. If you have had a hard day at   work or on the road or at the beach…this is a great place, relatively inexpensive and cheery place to pop in with your spouse and your kids…or your mom and dad if they are in town…for a kicked back old fashioned burger and fries dinner.  They do have sodas to got with that…and they will have  adult  milk shakes and beer as well (as soon as the license arrives in the mail)…but mostly you will want to go here for the burgers and fries…and once you try it…you will probably want to go often.”
Bob Pond- Salem, MA

A Passage to India
“I love it there…we know the bartender from England who is very nice and greets us always. I have never had a bad experience in all the years I have been there. It is a very cozy and quaint place and there could be a significant wait. But the wait is well worth it. It is a bit over priced but then again it’s well worth it!”
Mary Ann- Revere, MA

“This place is amazing! My fiance’ and I first ate here last Valentine’s Day and came back to Salem this year for the Ice carvings and of course to eat here! Their coconut soup is the one I judge all others by and the others  never come close!!!   The food is wonderful, service is amazing and personal, and you feel like royalty! Heck, we drive from PA to eat here!”
Susan- Mohnton, PA

“I lived in India for three years as a kid and have loved the cuisine ever since then. I’ve been to many Indian restaurants up and down the East Coast, and this is close to the best I’ve ever found. The personal attention that the owner gives his diners makes it particularly enjoyable.”
Brian- Marblehead, MA

“I’ve been a huge fan of Indian food for years, and this has to be one of the best restaurants that I’ve ever eaten at. The wait staff was attentive and remembered us from previous visits. The owner was also very friendly, and talks with his customers, which shows that he cares about your dining experience. The food was excellent and the prices are very good. Now I no longer have to trek to Boston or Providence for good local Indian food; I can enjoy it right in the town we live in.”
AJ- Salem, MA

“So good it’s not even funny. My girlfriend and I visit the restaurant no less than 2 days a week these days and it never gets old. The food is just so fresh and perfectly spiced to order. I almost cried the first time I ordered the Shahi Paneer Korma  *HOT* and it  actually came *HOT*. The servers are friendly and actually remember return customers, which is a welcome change from the Cambridge places I used to frequent. My only critique is that the place is pretty cramped and for such high quality food I’d expect a little more privacy in my dinning experience. ”
Mark- Salem, MA

“I heard great things and finally got the courage to try Indian food. So glad I did! I love it. And I loved the attentive service. I’ve been telling everyone to go there.”
Janet- Marblehead, MA

Adriatic Restaurant & Bar
“The Adriatic advertises itself as Mediterranean, but almost all the dishes are really Greek and Italian. That is not a complaint. Just an observation. Low lighting, high tin ceilings, warm wood, brick and large windows on the street create a comfortable, casual air. Noise level is low. Wine list is extensive. Wait staff is young and attentive. Food is very good. Sher ordered roast duck in a vinegar reduction sauce with sweet/white mashed potatoes and spinach. Scored A’s all around for plating, portion, flavors and taste. I ordered a mussel and shrimp macaroni and cheese. Plating was less spectacular (C), but portion, flavors and taste were on a par with the Duck that Sher ordered. We really enjoyed every aspect of this meal and the restaurant. We will return again.”
Bob- Salem, MA

Bella Verona
“Absolutely one of the best Italian restaurants at which I have dined.  Definitely recommended.”
Frank- Orlando, FL

“This is a great, charming little restaurant that is consistently great. The staff is very helpful and skilled. Always a great experience!”
Ted- Manchester, MA

“The restaurant blows away any anywhere I have ever eaten in the North End. The food is always fresh and cooked to order. If you like authentic Italian, RUN to Bella Verona!”
Adam- Salem, MA

Brothers Deli
“Brother’s has been a staple of my restaurant existence for 10 years now. Anyone who lives on the North Shore should be aware of the excellent food at all of the Brother’s locations (Lynn, Beverly, Salem…Danvers is owned by someone else, but is still really good). It is cafeteria style, the food is made fresh in front of you, and the staff is courteous and extremely efficient. I go to Brother’s is Salem mainly for breakfast, but everything is excellent. One caveat: During Halloween, it can get crazy packed, so try to ogo the other 11 months of the year. You’ll enjoy yourself a lot more. Get the Baked Mac & Cheese, it’s unbelievable.”
Matt- Salem, MA

“Tables, floors and entire restaurant was very clean. Prices cannot be matched by any other restaurant for exceptional value. Portions were huge, something for every taste is on the menu. Even home cooking cannot beat the dishes served in this restaurant. Everything was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection.”
Karen- Salem, MA

Cafe Kushco
“Delicious food and friendly service. Their roll ups, sandwiches and soups are super yummy and they have a lot of different selections. The frozen yogurt is a MUST after every meal. They only have chocolate and vanilla to choose from but they literally have every candy and sundae topping that you can think of (and more) to mix in! Definitely a great place to go for some fast and delicious food. ”
Ashley- Salem, MA

“The people who work here are very friendly and seem super family oriented. They offer amazing food and a friendly atmosphere. As for convince — it’s right downtown,, which is why I rated it a 9, but if you’re parking you’ll have to find something on the street. An excellent choice on the soup block.”
AW- Salem, MA

“Everything is fresh and made to order.”
KB- Peabody, MA

“The food is absolutely top notch. The portion size is enormous, definitely enough for more than one meal. All the food is fresh and made to order.  MAJOR KUDOS!!!! THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!”
Matt- Salem, MA

Caffé Graziani
“I’ve been going here for years and love it. Paula, Giovanni and the rest of the crew are excellent. Whether it’s breakfast, a Saturday night dinner or a monthly wine dinner, the food is always good and abundant. I’ve recommended this restaurant to many friends and will continue to do so. Besides the pasta primavera, I also recommend the pizza and cranberry/walnut pancakes. I do not eat meat and poultry, but my friends who do enjoy these dishes at Caffe Graziani.”
Jeff- Swampscott, MA

“It took me 1 1/2 years of living in Salem to visit and boy was I sorry it took so long. It’s my favorite dinner spot in Salem and I’d eat there at least once a week if possible (I manage about 1x per month.) Friendly staff, laid-back informal atmosphere, and amazing food for such an exceptional price. This is a true gem in town.”
Denise- Salem, MA

Capt’s Waterfront Grill & Club
“Their lobster rolls are the best I have had to date! Just really fresh and simple, a perfect representation of what a lobster roll should be AND the plate comes with TWO of them! Their steak and grilled fish are amazing and their calamari is excellent. Also, it has a very nautical air about, makes you feel like you are on a fisherman’s boat, but is still modern. I highly recommend going on the deck in the summer months, great view of the ocean. The service is great, very friendly knowledgeable people that love to give suggestions. Everything is clean and the plates are taken away as soon as you are finished. All in all, an amazing place to eat!”
Zoey- Williston, VT

“First time visit and what a great choice. We sat on the upper patio, great view! Appetizer: Lobster risotto was stuffed with lobster, excellent. My husband and I had both had the twin lobster plate it was perfect. And my 2 year old daughter had the grilled cheese (which I tasted) it was great! The food was outstanding. Parking was a little tough but worth it for this restaurant.”
Amy-  Boston, MA

“Food is excellent along with the service. This could be my new favorite restaurant. We waited 30 minutes but it was well worth the wait. I love the atmosphere and we always have great service. I would recommend this to anyone who is tired of the fast food Mexican restaurants and would like a real meal.”
Boxford, MA

Dotty & Ray’s
“Dotty and Ray’s is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant, where you always get great food and service at a great price.”

Engine House Pizza
“Pizza crust is excellent, and they were nice about giving us marinara sauce and extra parmesan cheese to dip our crusts into!!”
Debbie- Swampscott, MA

“Everyone was friendly & courteous, dedicated to good service, fast and accurate, no attitudes here! Clean, firehouse related decor slightly noisy but that was from all the other customers enjoying themselves. Excellent food, big hot cheesy pizza, plump delicious meatballs on a tasty crisp crust. Sauce here is just right not to heavy, spicy or too plain either. Subs are huge and are a family favorite for a day on the boat.”
Louis- Salem, MA

Essex NY Deli & Pizza
“I went there with my family, after it was recommended from a local we asked. What an experience. The sandwiches we order were great and the service fast and efficient. They even accommodated my sons allergy.”

Fantasy Island
“This is a favorite. You cannot go wrong with the food. Try the daily specials.”
Lisa- Salem, MA

Finz Seafood Restaurant
“Finz is amazing! The atmosphere, the service, the location… it all adds up to a great time! The vegetarian option (mushroom ravioli) was amazing and all of us raved about our entrees. I would definitely recommend Finz to out-of- town guests and to any local residents looking for a special night (birthdays especially). It can get a little loud, but the lighting and atmosphere are pretty calming so it sort of balances itself out.”
Sarah- Salem, MA

“This is my favorite restaurant in Salem! Everything was perfect. We had dinner there, then returned for lunch a few days later. Delicious food, our waiter was delightful.”
Elaine- New Jersey

Flying Saucer Pizza Company
“I hope Flying Saucer is in my life forever. We sat outside on a perfect Saturday evening to watch Salem go by as we ate slices and drank cider. It’s like having dinner and a show. The service was fantastic and the slice of the day (almost a Hawaiian) was just as great. Plus they allow dogs on the patio, which for me is a treat.”

Jeff- Rocky Hill, CT

King’s Famous Roast Beef & Seafood
“I  live down the street from Kings so it makes my choice very easy when deciding where to get a quick bite to eat. Their roast beef sandwiches and subs get bigger every time I order one. I usually order a junior roast beef with cheese and Kings “sauce” and it is amazing every time! They smother the roast beef with their sauce leaving no piece of roast beef untraced. Portion size on everything is HUGE!!”
Ashley- Salem, MA

“Roast Beef Sandwich, one of the best I have had. The owner explained to me the way he prepares the beef is different than other restaurants.”
Swampscott, MA

Koto Japanese Grill, Sushi & Lounge
“Wonderful first impression during their “soft opening” week. Food is fresh, flavorful and well presented. Prices are very reasonable. Wait staff is cheerful and solicitous without being imposing. Atmosphere is very sedate, good for conversation or contemplative relaxation. A very pleasant addition to the Salem dining scene.”
Bob- Salem, MA

Major Magleashes’s
“This place has the most AMAZING seafood chowder! Bob was great to us and told us all about Salem! My husband was a huge fan of the BBQ sauce they use here. For the BEST
beer, crowd, and chowder it’s a must eat at restaurant. We can’t wait to visit again!!!!”

Maria’s Sweet Somethings
“WOW! You will feel like you are in chocolate heaven! And you are! Do not miss the Chocolate festival at Valentines Day weekend. I wanted to dive into the chocolate fountain. “Ordered my pizza 20 minutes before they closed and they couldn’t have been nicer, they didn’t rush me. The pizza was excellent and I consider myself very picky. So hard to find a good pizza in this area. So thanks to Omega pizza, I’m definitely coming back. I’ll try not to make it right before you close next time!”

Polonus European Deli
“Great place to have a bite to eat, while in Salem Ma….I visit this place whenever I’m in salem. Even Halloween is a fun time to visit….Parking, well…parking in Salem, Ma is brutal overall… but going here is worth a parking ticket…!!”
Ginger- Salem, NH

“The food is delicious and it is a real treat for anyone looking for authentic Polish food within driving distance of Boston.”
Kristin- Boston, MA

“I grew up in Salem and still occasionally visit. What a pleasure it was to discover this deli and bakery with its Old World flavor and feel. It’s unfair to judge this establishment on parking because parking in Salem is difficult overall. The quality of the meats, cheese and bread was excellent. There were familiar Polish pastries and some I had not had before, such as plum filled donuts. I wanted to try the strawberry Bubka but they were sold out. There also is a large variety of imported candy and canned (glass jars) of products from Poland. The value is unbeatable: I purchased two filling sandwiches, two pastries and a very large bottle of imported mineral water, all for $12.00.”
Paula- Easton, MA

Red’s Sandwich Shop
“Been going to Reds for years and I wouldn’t change a thing. Red’s is such a warm and cozy place where all the locals go to grab a hot cup of coffee and delicious breakfast or lunch. Their newer location in Peabody is also very nice but it doesn’t have the local atmosphere like the one Salem has. I mostly go to Reds for their breakfast; their bacon and eggs plate is simple but delicious and their cinnamon french toast is amazing!  Did I mention their pancakes are size of tires! All their portions are HUGE and reasonably cheap. You definitely wont leave Reds hungry.”
Ashley- Salem, MA

“Great food, reasonable prices, portions were very generous. When I go back to Salem next year, I want to try their breakfast.”
Marie- Pennsylvania

Ristorante Gioia
“Service was efficient, thorough and pleasant. Atmosphere is Italian. Music is Bocelli and Sinatra. Perfect. I like this place…I will come again…and recommend it as well.”
Bob- Salem, MA

Salem Beer Works
“Good value for the money, great beers and service. Acoustics are loud, so don’t plan on a quiet evening. Good place to go for great bar menu and sampling different micro-beers.”
Mike- Marblehead, MA

“The place is great. Food and beer is always excellent. Waiters are friendly and fast. Would recommend it to anyone.”
M- Salem, MA

The Black Lobster
“All in our group had a good meal and the staff was pleasant and courteous. We had an excellent time.”
John- Lynn, MA

Village Tavern
“I like that you can drive into the parking garage and take a staircase directly into the restaurant…and they validate the parking! The BBQ is as good as it gets and the steaks for the money and quality remind me of the outback. Loved it and going back for sure.”
Jim- Wenham, MA

Vinny’s Pizza & Roast Beef
“Fantastic food, huge portions, amazing prices and great service! This place is definitely one of my favorite sub shops around, try it out! :)”
Lisa- Salem, MA

White Dove Market & Grill
“I have yet to find a food that I don’t like. This storefront is unassuming, but the food is delicious. Whether you want middle eastern, or American, this is the place. It is affordable and convenient.”
Sarah- Salem, MA

“White Dove looks like an ordinary convenience store, but it features fresh, authentic Middle Eastern food at very reasonable prices. Popular with SSU students.”
Carol- Salem, MA

Witch’s Brew
“This place has got to be one of the hidden treasures of Salem’s restaurants. Tucked away in what appears to be a small house edifice, the Witch’s Brew is an amazing place to enjoy a meal. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the conversation was easy with any and all who were attending that day. Of course, the locals know about the place, and I had the great fortune of having it suggested to me for lunch, and it paid off! Many travelers do not know about this wonderful cafe, and need to find out! It is located on Derby Street in Salem, on the street that runs along the waterfront, and just down the street from the ship in the harbor (The Friendship). I would recommend this place to anyone that will be in Salem. If I could pay the airfare, I would fly to Boston, take the scenic drive up Rt 1A to Salem, and enjoy this place all over again.”
Rob- Chickamauga, Georgia
